On Behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Tourism Minister Inaugurates Aqaba Archaeological Church

Representing His Majesty King Abdullah II, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Emad Hijazeen, inaugurated the restored Aqaba Archaeological Church in an event highlighting one of the oldest Christian landmarks in the world.
The event was attended by key figures, including Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority Shadi Ramzi Al-Majali, Aqaba Governor Ayman Al-Awaishea, Director General of the Department of Antiquities Dr. Fawzi Abu Danah; and clergy.
Minister Hijazeen stated that the inauguration embodies Jordanian identity founded on diversity and shared history.
Shadi Al-Majali noted that the church’s reopening celebrates the city’s history and human values.
The Aqaba Archaeological Church, dating back to around 290 AD, is among the earliest known Christian churches built for worship.
